Located near the famed Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, and Doolin CaveTrump Doonbeg provides the perfect location to explore the best of Ireland. Look no further for your next luxury hotel break.

Our Doonbeg property, a luxury hotel in Ireland, is situated on a sheltered corner of Ireland's south west coast, in scenic County Clare. The word Doonbeg is derived from the Gaelic Dun Beag, meaning "the small fort." The village there developed around Doonbeg Castle in the 16th century and today the remaining walls of the castle border the village on the south east side; where the Doonbeg River continues to slip by quietly as it has for centuries.

Modern day Doonbeg is famed for its sandy beaches, enticing restaurants and traditional pubs as well as the many vibrant, local drama, food, and music festivals. For the convenience of guests, we offer complimentary roundtrip shuttle bus service to the village.

We have a number of activities available to you, including sailing, horseback riding, surfing, and fishing. For inquiries and reservations, please contact our concierge department at +353.65.905.5624 or email doonbeg.concierge@trumphotels.com.

What to do in Doonbeg
horseback riding
On-site Activities
Horse-riding: There are two horse riding experiences to choose from. Either a beach ride along the beautiful two mile stretch of Doughmore Beach at the back of the resort or alternatively, a cross country ride at the equestrian centre which is about a 20 minute car drive from the resort. Please note that the equestrian centre uses English Saddles only. Falconry: Walk with falcons and feel like royals of old for an hour. Feed the birds and have them perch on your protected arm. Archery: Aim for the bulls-eye when you participate in one of our Archery sessions that take place on the resort. It’s great fun and appeals to all age groups. Clay Pigeon Shooting: Our American cousins call it ‘skeet shooting’! This thrilling sport calls for concentration, a keen eye and quick reactions.

cave
Caves
Clare is renowned for two great caves, Doolin Cave and Aillwee Cave. Doolin cave is home to the wonderous geological phenomenon, The Great Stalactite. Measuring almost 7.3 metres (23 ft.) in length, it is one of the largest free hanging stalactites in the world and the longest stalactite in the Northern Hemisphere. The Great Stalactite, suspended from the ceiling like a chandelier, is truly astounding. Visitors can hardly believe that it was formed from a single drop of water over thousands of years. Extend the adventure from underground to over ground following a charming Farmland Nature Trail that takes a looped walk around the cave setting. The nature trail is home to indigenous species of flora along with rare and miniature breeds of animals. Visitors can enjoy delicious home-cooked foods and home-baked cakes in the comfortable surroundings of Doolin Cave Cafe. Doolin Cave pottery, hand-made using glacial clay found deep within Doolin Cave, is available in the gift-shop. Aillwee Cave, Ireland's Premiere Showcave - formed when the streams sinking underground on the Aillwee mountain started dissolving channels through the lines of weakness in the limestone. Aillwee Cave is one of the most ancient caves in the Burren and perhaps in Ireland. Expert guides will accompany and inform you during your leisurely tour through the beautiful caverns, over bridged chasms, under weird formations and alongside the thunderous waterfall. On the same grounds as the Aillwee Cave is The Burren Birds of Prey, Falcons, Hawks, Vulture and Owls from all over the globe reside.
castle
Castles & Historic Buildings
Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is one of Ireland's permier visitor attractions. When you visit Bunratty Castle and Folk Park you are invited to explore two wonderful experiences - the acclaimed 15th century Bunratty Castle and the 19th Century Folk Park. The Castle is the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland. Built in 1425 it was restored in 1954 to its former medeival splendour and now contains mainly 15th and 16th century furnishings, tapestries, and works of art which capture the mood of those times. Today, the castle stands peacefully in the delightful grounds. The houses and cottages of the folk park spread out at the foot of its massive walls, much in the way that the cottages and crofts of old would have clustered around its base. We invite you to wander through the castle and marvel at the finest collection of medieval furniture in the country which brings the life a vital part of our Medieval past. Bunratty Castle closes each day at 4pm to prepare for the Medieval Banquet. County Clare is bursting with historical buildings and landmarks, Cahercommoaun Stone Fort, Clare Abbey, Clare Museum, Craggaunowen, Dysert O'Dea Castle, Ennis Friary,Kilrush Historic Town, Knappogue Castle and Gardens, Martello Tower, Lemaneh Castle, Poulnabrone Dolmen, Quinn Abbey, Scattery Island and Bunratty Castle. These historical buildings and landmarks are a must see for those interested in Old Irish Heritage.
fishing
Sailing, Kayaking, & Fishing
Whether you are an experience sailor or looking for lessons - we can arrange it all for you. Sailing into the setting sun on the Atlantic Ocean is such a peaceful and relaxing time spent with loved ones. With beautiful scenery for miles and places to explore - why not give it a try. Drift along the Doonbeg river from the shore and let the tide determine your destination. As you paddle your kayak you will glide by Doonbeg Castle, under the bridge at the east of the village. Kayaking can be arranged for people of all skill levels. In a picturesque location you may find that your paddle speed is slow, favouring the wonder of the surroundings over the need to get to your destination. The river banks are a haven of mysterious flora and miniature creatures quietly going about their day. Trump International Golf Links & Hotel provides two onsite fishing ponds where guests can engage in fly fishing for Brown and Rainbow Trout in the peaceful surrounds of the West Clare countryside using complimentary equipment. We can provide a qualified ghillie to offer instruction to beginners or advise to more seasoned fishermen. Guests can also opt for shoreline fishing, again with a ghilie. Guests may also choose to venture onto the waters of the Atlantic with either a half day or a full day deep sea fishing excursion where you will fish for Bass, Monkfish and Cod. Off shore fishing trips require a minimum of 6 participants and also require 14 days of notice of booking.
actvities
The Burren & Islands
A vast limestone plateau occupying an area of over one hundred square miles in North Clare, the Burren is home to various flora, both native species and those found only in other parts of the world, as well as many species of animals and birds. The Burren region is internationally famous for its landscape and flora. A visit to the Burren during the summer months will leave a person amazed by the colourful diversity of flowering plants living together within the one ecosystem. Arctic-alpine plants living side by side with Mediterranean plants, calcicole (lime loving) and calcifuge (acid loving) plants growing adjacent to one another and woodland plants growing out in the open with not a tree nearby to provide shade from the sun. Also found here are certain species which although rare elsewhere are abundant in the Burren. Even more amazingly they all survive in a land that appears to be composed entirely of rock. The Aran Islands, three small islands (Inisheer, Inishmaan, and Inishmore) located off the coast of the Burren, are ideal destinations for a day trip from Doonbeg. Inisheer boasts an abundance of nesting birds, Inishmaan is a botanist's dream, home to over 300 flowering plants, and Inishmore is highly regarded for its ancient stone forts and churches. Ferry service is available from Doolin Pier. The crossing takes less then 30 minutes to the nearest island, Inisheer, and there are several sailings daily from April to September. The crossing to Inishmore take approximately one hour.
cliffs
Cliffs of Moher & Loophead Lighthouse
Two of the most well known sights in the area are The Cliffs of Moher and Loophead Lighthouse. The majestic Cliffs of Moher, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean are one of Ireland's most spectaular sites. Located just north of Lahinch, the Cliffs rise from the Atlantic to heights of 214 m and stretch for 8km along the coast. The cliffs claim one of the most astonishing views in Ireland, and on a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay as well as the valleys and hills of Connemara. While many visitors walk along the cliffs to take in these spectacular views, the scale and beauty of the cliffs can be best appreciated when viewed from sea leavel. Cruises along the cliffs, allowing viewing from this vantage point, run from Dooling from April to October with sailing times depending on tides. The Loop Head peninsula on the west coast of County Clare juts into the Atlantic Ocean like a gnarled finger pointing westard. It is bounded on the north and west side by the Atlantic Ocean and the south by the River Shannon Estuary. The Loophead lighthouse is like a sentinel overlooking the whole area. From the edge of the ocean your next stop is Boston with no dry land between here and there. The area is sparsely populated with Kilkee being the only centre of population. The attractive villages encompassed on the peninsula, Cross, Carrigahold and Kilbaha are relatively small and untouched by development. The peninsula is extensively farmed, mainly with beef cattle and dairy herds.
beach
Beaches & Surfing
Trump International Golf Links and Hotel is set on a 1.5 mile, crescent shaped beach. This beach is very popular for surfing and walking. With the Wild Atlantic waves crashing at your feet it is the perfect setting to spend time time with your loved ones. Backed by sand dunes and the prestigious Trump Doonbeg Golf Course, Doughmore Beach's 2 1/2 km beach is a paradise for surfers, walkers, beach anglers and picnickers. The Blue Flag status White Strand, Killard, is a popular and very safe sandy beach for swimming. Sheltered from the prevailing winds, the gently sloping sandy beach has views across the bay to the sand dunes at Doughmore.. The Clogher Strand is located in the north of the Doonbeg Parish off the N67 road to Quilty. The beach is accessible via a slipway from the road and the sandy shore is backed by a high bank of round stones known as “boulies” which separate Lough Donnell lake from the Atlantic. When you think of the west coast of Ireland you may not always think big waves and lots of wind - that's the reality, that's what makes it so great for surfing. The Atlantic tides along Clare's rugged west coast are renowned as some of the finest surf Ireland has to offer. Ride the face of a wave waiting in anticipation of a late drop. When the break goes your way it's up to you to pull off as many turns and cutbacks as you can. If you're feeling adventurous you could set yourself up for a floater. Doughmore beach, which is overlooked by Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, is a haven for surfers. Along the coastline there are a host of surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing schools that cater for people of all levels from beginners to experts.
